How to Cancel ClearTax

To cancel various services or registrations associated with ClearTax, you need to follow different procedures based on what you are canceling. Here are the detailed instructions:

Canceling IRN (Invoice Reference Number)

To cancel an IRN, you must use the E-Invoicing API provided by ClearTax.

  • Send a PUT request to the E-Invoicing API with the following request headers:

    • X-Cleartax-Auth-Token: Mandatory, the auth token generated from your ClearTax user ID and password.
    • Content-Type: Mandatory, set to "application/json" for JSON or "application/xml" for XML.
    • Accept: Optional, set to "application/xml" if you want the response in XML.
    • gstin: Mandatory, the GSTIN number for the user.
  • Include the following request parameters:

    • irn: Mandatory, the IRN generated for the invoice.
    • CnlRsn: Mandatory, the reason for cancellation (1 = Duplicate, 2 = Data entry mistake, 3 = Order Cancelled, 4 = Others).
    • CnlRem: Mandatory, remarks for cancellation.
  • The request URL should be: PUT: {{HOST}}/einv/v2/eInvoice/cancel

Note that an IRN cannot be cancelled if there is a valid or active E-way Bill associated with it.

Canceling GST Registration

To cancel your GST registration, follow these steps:

  • Log in to the GST portal and navigate to Services > Registration > Application for Cancellation of Registration.
  • Fill in the Basic Details tab, which will collect pre-filled information. You can either manually fill in the ‘Address for Future Correspondence’ or select the option of ‘Address Same as above’.
  • Choose the reason for cancellation from the drop-down list, such as:

    • Change in PAN due to change in the constitution of business
    • Ceased to be liable to pay tax
    • Discontinuance of business/Closure of business
    • Others
    • Transfer of business due to amalgamation, merger, de-merger, sale, leased or otherwise
  • Select the date of cancellation of registration and update the GSTIN of the transferee entity if applicable.
  • Save and continue to the verification tab.
  • Verify the information by selecting the verification statement box and declaring that the information provided is true and correct. Select the name of the authorised signatory and enter the place.
  • Sign the application form using the DSC or EVC option and input the OTP to validate.
  • Track the status of your application by navigating to Services > Registration > Track Application Status.

Canceling ClearTax Services or Plans

For canceling payments or requesting refunds for ClearTax services:

  • For self e-Filing plans, you can cancel your payment or request a refund before the credit has been used for an e-Filing attempt. After an e-Filing attempt, no refund will be made.
  • For Assisted Plans, you can cancel your payment or request a refund before the expert assigned has commenced working on your case.
  • Contact payments@cleartax.in for any questions about refunds and cancellations.

General Instructions

  • Ensure you have all necessary documents and information before initiating the cancellation process.
  • Keep photocopies of all submitted documents and acknowledgement receipts as evidence of submission.
