MATLAB is a leading platform for numerical computing, programming, and simulation, widely used by engineers and scientists. It offers extensive libraries, toolboxes, and an interactive environment optimized for data analysis, algorithm development, and modeling. Known for its versatility, MATLAB supports tasks such as machine learning, image and signal processing, control systems, and visualizations. It provides powerful capabilities for solving complex equations, real-time analytics, and engineering simulations.

How to Cancel MATLAB

To cancel or deactivate a MATLAB product, you need to follow these steps, which involve both deactivating the license and potentially closing your MathWorks account if necessary.

Deactivating the MATLAB License

Using the Deactivation Application

If you have access to the computer where MATLAB is installed, you can deactivate the license directly from the application.

  • Open MATLAB, click on the Help menu in the Resources section, and select Licensing, then choose Deactivate Software.
  • Alternatively, if MATLAB is no longer installed but the installation folder remains, navigate to the installation folder and run the deactivation application. The default locations vary by platform and release:
    • Windows: Before R2024a – C:Program FilesMATLABR20XXyuninstallbinwin64deactivate_matlab.exe, Since R2024a – C:Program FilesMATLABR20XXybinwin64MathWorksLicenseDeactivation.exe
    • Linux: Before R2024a – /usr/local/MATLAB/R20XXy/bin/deactivate_matlab.sh, Since R2024a – /usr/local/MATLAB/R20XXy/bin/glnxa64/MathWorksLicenseDeactivation
    • macOS: /Applications/MATLAB_R20XXy.app/Deactivate.app
  • Select the licenses you want to deactivate and click Deactivate. If the deactivation is successful, click Close.

Deactivating from the License Center

If the computer is offline, damaged, or no longer available, you can deactivate the license through the License Center.

  • On a machine connected to the internet, go to the License Center and sign in to your MathWorks Account.
  • Select the license you want to deactivate.
  • On the Install and Activate tab, in the right pane, click Deactivate a Computer. If you do not see this option, then your license does not require deactivation.
  • In the Deactivate column, click the X for the computer containing the license you want to deactivate.
  • Complete the deactivation process.

Closing Your MathWorks Account

If you also want to close your MathWorks account, follow these steps:

  • Sign in to your MathWorks Account.
  • Click on the Profile dropdown menu.
  • Select Close Account from the menu.
  • Fill out the form to complete the request to close your account.
  • If you have any questions or need further assistance, you can submit a service request to the Customer Service Team or visit the Data Privacy form directly if you cannot access your account.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your MATLAB license is deactivated and your MathWorks account is closed if necessary.
