What feature do you use most often?

i use the column level documentation feature constantly because keeping our data dictionary updated used to be a whole separate project and now it just lives naturally inside Select Star. my team actually references it now which was never happening before

What feature doesn’t work as expected?

the auto generated documentation was a little off for some of our more complex tables at first but that was mostly because we had not cleaned up our naming conventions on our end yet. once we sorted that out the suggestions got way more accurate and useful

How could the product save you more time or money?

deeper native integrations with more BI tools would mean analysts spend way less time context switching just to understand where a metric is coming from. having that all connected inside Select Star would make the whole data discovery process so much faster end to end

I recommend Select Star to any data team that is tired of nobody knowing what their data actually means or where it comes from. it brings a level of clarity to your data stack that you did not realize you were missing until you have it.

What exceeded your expectations?

The automatic data lineage tracing is really impressive because it maps out how all our tables and dashboards are connected without any manual work. I also didn't expect the "popular joins" feature to be so helpful for figuring out exactly how to combine datasets I've never used before.

What feature doesn’t work as expected?

What could make it even better?

I’d love to see a better way to filter the lineage graph so I can focus on just the most important data paths without all the extra noise. Adding more proactive alerts that let us know immediately when a change might break a downstream dashboard would also be a huge help.

Final thoughts, wrap up what you think

I’d definitely recommend it because it’s a total lifesaver for understanding a complex data warehouse and stopping that "tribal knowledge" problem. It’s much more user-friendly than the old-school data catalogs, even if the setup takes a bit of time to get perfectly right.

What exceeded your expectations?

The automated data lineage shows every single connection in our complex systems. Our entire team loved seeing how fast the catalog documented all our messy tables

What feature doesn’t work as expected?

The semantic model management feels a bit slow during the large updates. I found that the role based permissions took some extra time for our setup

How could the product save you more time or money?

Adding more direct integrations with our smaller cloud tools would save time. A cheaper pricing plan for our smaller departments would save our company some money

This data platform is a nice choice for any large enterprise company. Your data analysts will love having much more free time to finish their tasks
