What feature do you use most often?

I often use the backend as a service features, and database management tools. it makes it easy to structure data, and build applications quickly without needing to set up infrastructure manually

What feature doesn’t work as expected?

Some of the advanced configurations, like custom functions and integrations don’t always feel as intuitive as i expected. While powerful, it can require a deeper understanding and extra setup, which may slow down development for us new users.

If you could change one thing, what would it be?

it would be to simplify the onboarding experience and make advanced features more beginner friendly. also, adding more guided tutorials, like templates and clearer documentation would really help me get faster and reduces time.

What exceeded your expectations?

What impressed me is the speed of the GraphQL API generation blew me away. I just defined my data tables and suddenly had a fully functional, high-performance API ready to go without writing a single line of backend code.

Is there something that almost made you stop using it?

Early on, the pricing tiers felt a little steep for tiny hobby projects, which made me hesitate. But once I saw how much time it saved me in billable hours, the cost started making way more sense.

What could make it even better?

I’d love to see a more robust library of pre-built templates for common app types. Having a "one-click" starter for something like a SaaS dashboard would be a total game-changer.

I’d tell any dev friend to give it a shot, especially if they’re tired of the Firebase ecosystem. It’s a solid 9/10 recommendation for anyone building data-heavy JS apps.

What do you like best about this product?

8base just makes building backend infrastructure feel way less intimidating than it normally does and the fact that you can get something real up and running that fast is honestly what hooked me from the start. that speed to functionality is hard to match.

Have you experienced any bugs or errors?

Had one moment where a query in 8base returned an unexpected result but i traced it back to a mistake in how i had structured the data model from the beginning. fixed that and it ran exactly the way it was supposed to with no issues after.

What new feature would you love to see added?

More built in templates for common app architectures in 8base wouldve made spinning up new projects even faster than it already is. the foundation is already really strong so having a few more starting points wouldve just been a nice bonus on top of that.

Already got a couple developers i know to try 8base after talking about it and both of them have been using it consistently since which is usually the best sign a recommendation landed well. feels good to vouch for something that actually comes through

How has it made your work/life easier?

I usually code solo, its nice not to setup and maintain a backend once in a while. I just use the data model then get a full GraphQL api ready to go, saved some time with this one.

Have you experienced any bugs or errors?

Hit a bug, one of my functions and its logs were basically useless, I stared at vague errors trying to guess whats wrong. Ended up wasting some time today trying this tool.

Is there a workflow that could be simpler?

The docs are fine when you're following the happy path, but the moment I tried to do something slightly off-script, I was on my own. Lots of tab-switching between docs, GitHub issues, and Discord trying to piece things together.

If you are a solo dev who focuses on backend, its a breath of fresh air. Would be nice to have the debugging story a bit better though, because when things gets wrong, it easily eats your hours fast.
